I've enjoyed quilting and sewing ever since I was young. One of my first projects was a quilt I made in third grade. Working with large scale and complex projects gave me advanced problem solving skills from a young age. I design my projects with keen attention to detail. I ensure that from the initial conception of a textile project to end of life, I am meeting my target goals and producing an exemplary product. Creating 3-D garments from fabric requires a high level of precision and intricate design that has heightened my logical-problem solving skills.

I designed this quilt for my high school marching band's color guard team. As team captain, I made a quilt and had every member decorate a square that represented them, we called it our unity quilt. This experience taught me the importance of building community and culture within a team.
Before my high school graduation, I purchased a table cloth from Goodwill for my grad dress. I limited myself to a set budget of under twenty dollars and the goal of recycling materials. Sewing within the constraints of both the limited materials and cost introduced unique problems to work around.
I enjoy learning independently and I am highly self-motivated. During the pandemic I taught myself to crochet by watching videos on YouTube. I started simple with learning how to make a simple chain, then I quickly jumped into a very ambitious sweater project.
Each student had to read a science fiction novel and create a project that represented the book. I choose to read the Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut. Each panel in the quilt is a representation of a symbolic image that Vonnegut used. This quilt was an exercise in using my creativity to design the different symbols that were relevant to the book.
