My time volunteering with the Sherwood Center for the Arts, art smART camps, assisting children (ages 7-12) for STEM camps was a profoundly rewarding experience. It allowed me to give back by sparking curiosity and confidence in young minds, teaching foundational concepts in an engaging way. This experience not only improved my communication and leadership skills but also deepened my appreciation for accessible education and the power of inspiring the next generation of innovators.
In this role, I assisted an instructor. I ensured that all activities ran smoothly and efficiently. From this experience I am very proud of how I was able to make learning fun and engaging for students. I was very quick to intercept if I saw a child struggling to focus or engage with the activity at hand. I have learned how to take large STEM concepts and teach young students.
I enjoyed learning what interests students and having conversations with them about STEM and my experience as a young woman in STEM. I am very proud to serve as a role model for young students wanting to pursue a career and academics in STEM.
